I am Meander,
and this is how I kept my glass filled over the years.

With over 20 years of experience in hospitality, my journey with wine has taken me across the world. My passion began at Wijnkoperij Henri Bloem in Tilburg and soon led me to London after completing my WSET Level 3. There, I worked as a sommelier at Jamie’s Italian on Threadneedle Street, Fifteen Restaurant, and later spent several years at Chiltern Firehouse under the guidance of Romain Audrerie.

My career then took me to Australia and New Zealand, where I joined the sommelier team at Wildflower Restaurant in Perth, worked as Cellar Door and Beverage Manager at Casita Miro in the Onetangi Valley, and later ran Waiheke Wine Centre on Waiheke Island. Curious about the journey before wine reaches the bottle, I also worked several vintages in Australia, New Zealand, and Austria to gain hands-on experience in winemaking. In February 2025, I earned my DipWSET Diploma in London, and I am now based in the Netherlands where I host private wine tastings and continue sharing my passion for wine and its stories.

This season's favourites

I try and select these every month (bear with). I'm genuinely excited about these wines. They have a personal touch, experience or story. Not all will be available where you might be at the time, which kind of makes it more special. Go and explore!

I
Sumarroca, Gran Reserva, Brut Nature, Cava
Penedes · Spain
Pale gold and crisply dry, buzzing with green apple, lemon and a faint brioche that speaks of patient ageing. Fine bubbles, a saline finish that could cut through jamón, fries or anchovies and sharpens the banter. Terrific value with genuine lees complexity. An elevated, food‑friendly Brut Nature (zero dosage; wine that receives no sugar after disgorging).
Yes please!
II
Quinta do Noval, Extra dry, White port
Douro Valley · Portugal
Right, ditch the G&T and try this dry white Port instead. Subtle, fruity and light, it’s deliciously refreshing with savoury nibbles and perfect for a Porto Tonic. Made from indigenous grapes (Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, Rabigato and Códega), tank fermented, some short skin contact, a two‑year average blend, mostly aged in old wooden vats. Serve well chilled at 7–9°C. (also for sale at certain Henri Bloem stores)
Why not?!
III
Domaine Fontanel, Amae
Côtes du Rousillon · France
Pale straw yellow with a zing of lime, crushed herbs and a whisper of toasted nut. Bright, balanced and slightly textured on the palate, great with scallops, grilled fish or anything with a touch of spice. Bring on that BBQ weather. Properly drinkable, great blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris. Gives body and lushness without big oak notes.
Sounds great!
IV
De Martino, Viejas Tinajas, Cinsault
DO Valle del Itata · Chile
This wine is quite the surprise, it drinks like a breezy Pinot Noir with lively perfume, subtle herbs and bright acidity. Light, energetic and utterly drinkable on warm (any) days. It won’t weigh you down, it’ll make you want to dance. Great producer, adventurous winemaking, must-have for summer reds to start- or end the party.
Now, please!
V
Alzinger, Ried Hollerin, Riesling Smaragd
Warchau · Austria
This is a proper treat… Open and a touch creamier than the usual Rieslings. It's all citrus and blossom with a compact texture and a fruity, stony finish. Grown on shallow clay over gneiss in the top third of Hollerin, it opens early, showing intense stone-fruit notes and vivid mineral drive. Not a regular find, but spot it on a good list or visit the Wachau and try it there; worth the hunt whether you’re a wine drinker, wild wanderer and/ or cyclist.
